Here is a very cool thing available for 6th – 9th graders this summer:
Future Farmers of Charlottesville: Do you like to get your hands dirty? Do you want to eat tomatoes and cucumbers you grew yourself? Plant seeds, harvest vegetables, keep track of weather and other garden data and take home seeds and seedlings to start or expand your own garden. Learn about different kinds of soil, composting and how to keep pests away from your garden. Visit farmers, community gardeners and local food advocates. Take a trip to Monticello to see how Jefferson gardened. Eat what you’ve grown during a Friday lunch prepared from the PVCC community garden. Guinevere Higgins is co-founder of Blue Ridge Backyard Harvest.
Check out the brochure or the website for this and other programs available for Summer Career Academies 2011.
